It is the mission of the Dothan Fire Department Training Division to provide quality, comprehensive, and progressive training to ensure our members can effectively deliver outstanding service in today’s all-hazard environment while maintaining their safety.

The Dothan Fire Department teaches a variety of fire, rescue, hazardous materials, and emergency medical programs that include, but not limited to, Firefighter I/II, Fire Officer, Fire Instructor, Apparatus Operator, Rope Rescue Technician, Hazardous Materials Technician, EMT Basic, CPR, Stop the Bleed, etc. All fire-based training is accredited through the Alabama Fire College, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board). All emergency medical training is accredited through the Alabama Department of Public Health, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and the American Heart Association.

Member safety is one of the Dothan Fire Department’s “Big 5” values. We offer a comprehensive health and wellness program that includes, but not limited to, annual medical physicals, SCBA fit testing, fitness assessments, fitness training, stress/sleep/nutrition education, mental health counseling, emergency vehicle operator education, and accident/injury investigation & prevention.

The Dothan Fire Department is committed to recruiting the absolute best cadets our community has to offer while maintaining a diverse workforce. Cadets must possess a positive attitude, be hard charging, and be physically fit. To assist applicants in the hiring process we offer Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) mentorship and physical fitness programming.  With the opening of the Wiregrass Public Safety Center the Dothan Fire Department is excited to begin a new chapter in training opportunities. This state-of-the-art facility will aid in the training of firefighters, emergency medical technicians, hazardous materials response teams, technical rescue teams, and new recruits.  Community CPR, Stop the Bleed, and Hands-Only CPR programs are offered to the public as well as home safety and fire escape planning. Please visit the Wiregrass Public Safety Center website or download the App for more information.
