Deputy Chief David Hasty – Operations
Deputy Chief David Hasty joined the Dothan Fire Department in January 1999, after two years with the Dothan Police Department. Following his graduation from the Dothan Fire Recruit School, he spent 19 years in Operations, advancing through the ranks from Firefighter to Sergeant, Captain, and eventually Battalion Chief. After serving seven years as a Battalion Chief, he transitioned to the Fire Administration’s Prevention Division, where he became the Chief of Prevention. In this role, he managed Community Risk Reduction programs, including fire investigations, building inspections, smoke alarm initiatives, code enforcement, plan reviews, and target hazards.
Promoted to Deputy Chief in 2022, Chief Hasty now serves as Chief of Operations, overseeing personnel across all three shifts (A, B, and C) and managing responses to firefighting, emergency medical incidents, and hazardous material situations.
In addition to his city service, Chief Hasty retired from the Air National Guard in 2015 as a Chief Master Sergeant, with 26 years of service, including two years on active duty in support of “Operation Noble Eagle” after 9/11.
Chief Hasty holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Troy State University and an Associate Degree in Electronic Technology from the Community College of the Air Force. A lifelong learner and leader, he is a graduate of the Alabama Public Safety Leadership Academy and Leadership Dothan Class XXXIV. He has also earned the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE).
