Cooking Safety

Cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires in America. They are also the leading cause of fire related injuries. What should you do in the event of a cooking fire? If you have a small grease cooking fire, never use water to extinguish the fire, it will increase the fires intensity. Smother the flames by sliding a lid over the pan and turn off the burner. If you have an oven fire, leave the oven door shut, this will cut off the oxygen to the fire. These tips will help reduce fire spread in most cases. If you have any doubt about fighting a small cooking fire, leave immediately and call 911.
