burn permit logo
The Dothan Fire Department reminds citizens that open burning within city limits is restricted and requires an approved burn permit issued by the Fire Prevention Division.
Approved fires must meet required safety distances, including at least 50 feet from buildings on your property and 500 feet from buildings on any neighboring property.  Weather conditions, including high winds and extremely dry conditions, may also restrict burning.
Permits are not required for cooking fires, barbecues, outdoor fireplaces, and heating containers.  However, only clean fuel may be burned.  Burning garbage, plastics, rubber, or other refuse is prohibited.  A means to extinguish the fire, such as a water hose, must be within 10 feet of the fire.  No fire shall be left unattended at any time.
Before burning, please get in touch with the Dothan Fire Department Fire Prevention Division at 334-615-3500 to request a burn permit.
Thank you for helping us keep Dothan safe!

Open Flame Policy
The City of Dothan prohibits all open flames, with the exception of those used for personal warming or cooking. Any other type of open flame requires a burn permit issued by the Dothan Fire Department. Burn permits can be obtained at the Fire Administration Office, located at 600 Columbia Highway.
